The Great Indian Jacket – Sherwani Feat. Paresh Lamba Signatures

Styling: Purushu Arie | Outfit: Paresh Lamba | Photography: Shrinath Ethirajan

For this Diwali, I took a sartorial pledge to leave behind the ethnic dressing cliches and embrace the festive spirit in The Great Indian Jacket – Sherwani. A sherwani is a traditional long coat like garment, worn by South Asian men for formal occasions. Kurta-Pyjama has otherwise become a standard men’s uniform for Diwali and let’s not forget the unnecessary bling that’s created in the name of ethnic wear. GQ India‘s smart man’s guide on the great Indian jacket help you pull off the modernist vision of the sherwani which can be both stylized and low-key. A sherwani can not only elevate your sartorial game to spectacular but is also a smart layering option to look festive best.

This sherwani from Paresh Lamba Signatures looks beyond excessive embellishments and instead lets the monochrome patterns to do the talking. A sherwani is meant to make you look regal and elegant and not an eyesore. Diwali is the festival of colours. Regal blue and red are not only opulent but bring out the Diwali festive spirit. The red detailing on collar and pocket draws a perfect balance between boldness and subtlety. Further, the cut of the sherwani creates a vertical illusion to make you look taller. This slick sherwani from Paresh Lamba Signatures features soft satin lining to amalgamate impeccable tailoring with comfort and quality.

The sherwani is paired with silk kurta in royal blue and red churidar trousers. The sharply tailored classics in opulent hues and textures retains heritage and yet offers an alternative modernist outlook. The ethnic ensemble is completed with a pair of mojari shoes and vintage round-rim sunnies.

Bangalore based fashion designer Paresh Lamba is renowned for his romantic classical aesthetics. This ensemble itself has a hint of showmanship through it’s craftsmanship. The cut of the sherwani is evidently vintage. The kurta and churidar have a strong middle-Eastern flavour. However, the resultant end look is strikingly refreshing. I express my sincere gratitude to photographer Shrinath Ethirajan who perfectly captured the rich and vibrant essence of the ensemble.
Wear the great Indian jacket and it’s guaranteed that you’ll stand out from the crowd!
