Fashion Illustrations – Alexander Wang SS16 New York Fashion Week
It’s been almost a year since I again started posting fashion illustrations regularly in this blog. Apart from the artistic and aesthetic expression, what’s amazing about illustrations is the evolution in style. The change in style of your expression more or less illustrates the change in your personality. When I look back at the illustrations I made in past, I know how my style has changed but not. The change is what keeps art and culture from stagnation. This change was remarkably evident in Alexander Wang’s spring/summer 2016 show at New York Fashion Week which also marks his eponymous label’s 10th anniversary. Mr. Wang’s style has changed over the decade but not. The GIF images of Alexander Wang running on the ramp, smiling and dancing… that must be one hell of a feeling. Look at him, in 10 years there was the infamous stint with Balenciaga, H&M collaboration and his own strong signature label. Street influence and badass attitude that doesn’t necessarily conform with New York’s traditional glamour, has constantly remained as the core aesthetics in Alexander Wang’s line. His SS16 line was about stitching together all the 10 years to present a retrospective in mesh, leather, bombers, denims, over-sized clothing and baseball caps. From sporty to sexy to grungy, all the looks point out to different Wang girls from the past decade. Some of those looks also came in menswear alternatives – first time in Alexander Wang runway.
